About Stone Dominoes Football Club
Bob Bowers founder and now Life President of Stone Dominoes FC started the club from St Dominic’s Catholic Beaver and Cub group in Stone, Staffordshire with a team of 7 year olds, including his youngest son, Daniel in 1987.
The club grew over the next decade into Staffordshire’s premium location for local players to develop their footballing talent. SDFC became renowned for its first-class coaching and became a hunting ground for local professional clubs to find their next super star. SDFC has had many youth players come through the club and move into the professional game with more than a handful representing their national team.
SDFC teams have the luxury of playing on the beautifully manicured pitches at Wellbeing Park, Stone, Staffordshire. The 22 acre site was acquired by Mr Bowers in the early 90’s whereby it required the club and the local community to pull together to convert the then agricultural fields into football pitches. Over time the site grew into a mecca for youth to enjoy their football in a safe and encouraging environment.
As the club aged so did the players and it was therefore inevitable for a men’s 1st team to be formed. After many successes in local leagues and cups, with the support of the then Chairman’s company Springbank Vending, the 1st team moved into the semi-professional leagues. Climbing the football pyramid SDFC represented Staffordshire playing against and often beating strong and well-established teams around the North West Counties.
Like many grassroots clubs, SDFC’s history has ebbed and flowed with good times and challenging times. Three years ago the club appointed Nick Holland as Chairman and this soon turned into being one of their best signings. Nick initially set the important foundations for the club to build and now it can boast 25 teams covering including both men’s and women’s, ‘little dots’ from 4yrs, through to a men’s open aged 1st team.
The club now meeting the FA accreditation for Charter status and with big plans for the future in developing the club and the facilities SDFC welcome any player, coach, official and football fan to enjoy football in a safe and encouraging environment.
